So... the cafe curtains are behind schedule. But, as all you Procrastinating Party-ers can see, they are definitely in progress. And you can be sure this thing has to keep moving cause you're looking at the only dining table in the house. I'm not sure if this is a reason or an excuse, but the truth is that I decided NOT to topstitch the hem and side seams. The tan thread just seemed too visible on the red design and I've been telling myself this whole project to do it right (as opposed to just getting it done). So I'm doing the best I know how even though it's taking some extra time. My mom mentioned using the blind hem stitch on my sewing machine rather than handstitching, but I just can't get it to work right. Anyway, I'm plugging along and will post my after shots asap!
And as any good procrastinator knows.... the trick to getting things done is to move on to something else (that's also been on the "To Do" list for six months) when you are procrastinating the current project (like handsewing all four sides of 10 cafe curtains). So here are a couple "afters" with no "befores". Sorry, just take my word for it that these closets were packed with random stuff that made absolutely no sense.
The coat closet off living room now holds games, toys, extra chairs, and (YAY!) a hanger for your coat when you come to visit.
Yeah, yeah, so this one doesn't look as good as I thought. You should have seen it before though. At least it's organized now.
Piles of junk and stuff that I don't want/need anymore taken from the closet cleaning. See anything you want? :) ...besides the keyboard. Hey, maybe I'll post pics of this stuff sometime and have a little online garage sale.
I also messed around with the livingroom furniture. My problem is.... see the big vertical frame on the bottom row? It's too low, huh? What should I do? Make 10 more nail holes in the (new) wall just to move it all up? Grr... I don't know but it bugs me.
Just for reference... this is right after we moved in before the photo wall.
This is how it was before today. See how the lampshade just messes it all up? I thought if I swapped the couch and loveseat it would be fixed, but...
Anyway, it's a great day! Warm weather and a clear blue sky. I'm off to take a walk!
LOVE the online garage sale idea!! My kind of shopping...no getting up early, dragging the kids in and out of the car and... even better then that... I get to stay in my PJ's!! Great Job on all your projects! It is almost making me want to get up right now and go organize my coat closet:)
ReplyDeleteHmm, I agree that one picture is too low--hope you solve the problem without breaking your back or the wall! The room looks nice ,however. And I also love it the first way with the big mirror.
ReplyDeleteIt feels good to get closets clean!! and the idea about a garage sale on line would be a nice way to do things!! Except for all the shipping---however if it was done like craig's list perhaps people could come to you.
I wish my closets looked like this!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your projects! Those photo walls can be so tricky. Maybe you could take those two frames down and make templates of them out of brown paper. Then hang the templates up a bit higher and see if it looks ok that way, without having to move everything. You hate to mess things up but it is frustrating when something bugs you! At least with a template you can see if you like it before you put in a dozen more holes :-)
ReplyDeleteEither way, it looks lovely and you got stuff done! Love that!
Try rearranging the pictures on the hooks that are already in the wall to see if you can find a way to make it work as is. Good luck! Great job. And I am so with you on finishing a project because you are procrastinating another one! :)
ReplyDeleteGreen with envy over your house. Wish I may Wish I might have the sewing machine I wish for tonite. Can't wait to see the curtains.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I'm having a giveaway for a pretty scarf. Come see and enter if you think you would like to have it sent to you.

Thanks for your comments on my blog! What a pretty room you have, to have a dilemna in!
ReplyDeleteThe mirror arrangement is a cool pottery barn sorta look, but obviously you're wanting a photo wall....can you swap the two bottom left pictures? Is there room to pull the seating forward and place the standing lamp behind it, between the window and the photos?
Good job on the closets!
