Coffee Filter Wreath
Coffee Filters + Styrofoam Wreath + Hot Glue = Fun, Modern Looking Wreath
The little monogram for Luke was made from cereal box cardboard, some twine and a little hot glue.
Drop Cloth Table Cloth
Inspiration from skirted table pictures such as...
I used canvas dropcloths from Lowes. One package of two (6x8 and 4x11 or something) worked perfectly for one 6' table. I preshrunk the drop cloths which made them soft and so much easier to work with and was in a hurry so I tried to use the hemmed edges as much as possible. Here they are again in all their imperfect, unironed glory...
Of course, you can see that I didn't use any ribbon, covered buttons or box pleats. I sort of wish I had now, but at the time I was just trying to get it all done. I look forward to using them in the future for all sorts of things (parties, showers, Christmas, etc). The versatile color will go with anything and I can always add a colorful ribbon trim or the button detail later.

I'd love to know how you got this look. I would love to skirt a table that my daughter uses as a vanity in her room. I just don't want to spend money on fabric that I might destroy if I make a novice's mistake.
ReplyDeleteKaren, I just measure, cut and sew. Really. Sometimes it works out and other times I make it work out. :)
ReplyDeleteFor starters, it's basically the same idea as a bed skirt. I took all the measurements (top, ends, sides) and added a 1/2 inch seam allowance. For the edges that I knew needed to be finished (topstitched side edges or bottom hem) I figured 1 inch extra (1/2' folded twice). Then I cut the four corner panels something like 15 - 20 inches wide plus seam allowance.
Then it was really easy to put together, just make sure you remember what is your front panel and what is your top panel. :) I think I got all the sides and ends pinned on and realized I was getting ready to sew them to a side panel rather than the top. :) Haste makes waste. The story of my life.
