More Southern Living Love!

Haskell Harris's cottage was featured in the April 2009 Southern Living and has been shown all over blogland.  But it's one of the best and is very deserving of attention.  Haskell was previously a writer at Cottage Living and is currently at Garden and Gun, where she has an active blog.

Again, I appreciate these pictures and the SL article not so much for the specific style choices but for the overall design and the fun diy projects they inspire.

I spy some kind of jute or twine wrapped around the porch swing chains, painted stripes on the porch floor, cute cushions on the swing and rocker...not to mention I love the soft grey paint color with white trim and the vine (clematis?).

Love the antique trunk as a coffee table and the recovered wing chairs.

Do it yourself...canning jar centerpiece, wrapped chandelier chain, antique dry sink as a sideboard, mismatched dining chairs...

...baskets in the open shelving, old maps, postcards or vintage looking wrapping paper as wallpaper.

Love the subway tile with grey grout.

With all the dresser makeovers, it’s kind of nice to see one that isn’t painted and looks to have the original drawer pulls.  I probably wouldn't be able to resist a little updating, but I think it's great that she was able to.

So, what are are your plans for the weekend?  I plan to finish continue painting our master bedroom... fun, fun!  Hope you have a good one!

  1. I can never tire of this house, just beautiful. it is a local home too.

  2. I love that they featured a home that looks like a "real" person could possibly afford to live. So often the furniture and accessories (and the huge size of the home!) make me feel like I can't relate.

  3. Any clue what the name of the soft gray paint color is?

    1. Hi, Ann! It looks like the exterior is BM Cliffside Gray. The other paint colors might be listed in this article as well...

What'cha thinkin?
