Repurposed Goodwill Find

What do you do when you find a $2 framed needlepoint at Goodwill that you just can't resist?

Turn it into a pillow, of course!

I used black velvet for the back and the piping and ordered a 16" x 20" insert from Robey's Wholesale Inserts.  Although it's one of the only non-machine-washable pillow covers I've ever made, I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep it.  I love that it's vintage and a little quirky.  And it reminds me of fun Goodwill shopping trips with a dear friend!

You can still snatch up these black and white stripe pillows, though!  Visit the etsy shop for detail photos and pricing info.

  1. Love it! Those colors are gorgeous. This is so clever - I never would have thought to repurpose as a pillow. And you got a pretty decent frame out of the deal too!

    {I've been meaning to ask you to do a tutorial on sewing invisible zipper in pillow covers! I'm desperately wanting to learn!! :)}

  5. Well that is fabulous, as are the other pillows, as I'm sure you know.

    Reminds me of this post at Kate Collins Interiors about using a tad bit of kitsch (see her needlepoint pillow) to keep an interior from taking itself too seriously. Gee, now you have a new pillow AND a frame to paint and reuse. Woo hoo!

  6. Whoa! By far one of my favorite "trash to treasure" makeovers. So creative!

  7. Lovely! I love finding these beg frames! And even better when you can use the frame and the needlepoint. I just took apart a framed canvas. Using the frame for one project and painting over the ugly Viking to have a blank canvas. Got plans for the frame?

    1. Yes, the frame perfectly fits an unframed painting of my grandmother's! Can't decide what color to paint it though, so it's relegated to the basement with all the rest of the unfinished projects. :)

  8. Somehow I missed this post. Love, love, love this room! The colors in the needlepoint are beautiful - and so is the pillow.

    P.S. Love the ones in your store too!
